The Spiral Dance
This year the San Francisco Reclaiming community hosted the 30th annual Spiral Dance Ritual. This year we decided to have an emphasis on the next generation. This means that there were youths (including me) having bigger parts in the ritual. Me, along with the Pagan witch, Starhawk, and Rose May Dance lead the Journey to the isle of apples to meet the dead. I found it one of the most magical experiences to do this. Accompanying us were Mark Simos, Starhawks brother as well as a fiddler, and some of the chorus singing 'crossing stony ground.' When we got to the ise of apples I recited the Warriors speech, and to my delight, did not say anything wrong. I was worried about this because I had started to memorize this with some of the wrong wording but later on was corrected. After we had meet the dead, we danced the spiral and lead the crowd of en-tranced people out of the trance.
